Yep. These practices were not adopted because corporations are nice people that wanted to help improve society. They were implemented because they are good at identifying talent at bargain prices.

Most, if not all, large corporations are inherently evil. Target is exceptional in that they have made a deliberate choice to make evil a core element of their business operations.
Companies didn’t adopt DEI to “go woke” they adopted it because it gave them access to a larger talent pool, which was often cheaper because they had not previously been recognized and therefore didn’t have the work history to command higher wages. There was always a business case to be made for this kind of program and its why it was so broadly implemented.
No one abandoned programs like this because they were costly or harmful, the only companies that did so were trying to score political points with jerks. And the outcome of that is pretty predictable.
