Unsafe Rust code doesn’t turn off the borrow checker, it basically just allows you to play with pointers and call code that the compiler can’t (or can’t right now) statically assert is sound. IE if you roll your own Vtable the functions are safe to call, but the compiler can’t tell so you have to use unsafe

25·16 天前Lol you people are always like this go pound dirt
Probably about the same. Only realized at some point cause I was complaining about how a teacher always had us close our eyes and imagine shit. I was like tf are we doing this for when it doesn’t do anything. And I got confused looks and somebody asked if I could see pictures in my head. I thought they were screwing with me and lo and behold most people can actually see things in their head similar to dreams.
Similar thing went down for the internal monolog. I believe I sort of complained offhand how movies/shows always depict people thinking as them just talking but how there wasn’t exactly a better way to do it. Friend laughed and said something like “Well and obviously that’s how people think too”. Wouldn’t have thought he was screwing with me if he wasn’t constantly making things up lmao
Yeah. I’ve got Aphantasia and no internal monolog

3·3 个月前Right cause the boolean isn’t a named type. If you have two possible states that can be represented with a boolean, or an enum of the two possible states which embeds more info into the callsite

132·4 个月前Frankly I expect the kernel dudes to be pretty good about this, their style guides alone are quite strick and any funny business in a PR that isn’t marked correctly is I think likely a ban from making PRs at all. How it worked beforehand, as already stated by others is the author says “I promise this follows the rules” and that’s basically the end of it. Giving an official avenue for generated code is a great way to reduce the negatives of it that’ll happen anyway. We know this from decades of real life experience trying to ban things like alcohol or drugs, time after time providing a legal avenue with some rules makes things safer. Why wouldn’t we see a similar effect here?
