Not entirely their call. I have little sympathy for the likes of Sony, Samsung et al but they’re also beholden to the entertainment industry which is very VERY pro-DRM (and the like). Open Source standards will make it much harder to lock down TVs and make it easier to pirate shit (or, you know, actually fully own your TV and do whatever the fuck you want with it). They won’t be dropping those ‘calls’ any time soon, not unless pissing off the entertainment industry worked out as more profit.

Aye, it’s pretty uncommon these days to find Wi-Fi that doesn’t just work out of the box. Can indeed happen on occasion though. Usually if there’s no wiki entry on the issue, the community is pretty good about helping out.

I would definitely give it another go. I’ve been daily driving for about a decade now - I didn’t personally have any issues back then other than some games being pita or not working at all with WINE. But Linux gaming has made huge steps in recent years.

Technically I still duel boot and have always done (for just in case) but I can’t even remember the last time I booted into Windows.

You can just use any distro that runs Steam and set steam to use Big Picture Mode for a similar experience. There are gaming specific distros like ChimeraOS, Nobara, Pop!_OS, Garuda, etc. though.

Wi-Fi drivers? Most should be supplied by the kernel. Do you have obscure Wi-Fi hardware?

Sorry, I was alluding to how expensive everything is here. Even with our free healthcare, the average American still has more disposable income than the average NZer.
And unfortunately decades of underfunding and budget cuts has our ‘free’ health system on its knees. Many people now pay for health insurance or even fundraiser to go private because waiting lists are so insane. If it continues on the way it is, people are goi g to end up with the American system anyway as people will opt for paid insurance that gives them far more choice and better access than the poor person system will (aka our current system will become like Medicaid and not people will be insured or user paid anyway).

Sorry to be all doom and gloom on a gaming community, just sometimes really sucks to be so isolated and watching society around you go to shit.

But by the same token I also wouldn’t put it past Nintendo and Sony to make backroom deals with Unity. And bonus if it screws over the competition.

We have a physical Steam Link (and a Steam controller) that we bought way back when Steam Link was fairly new. Now an Android TV that has the Steam Link app which is also pretty nifty. But since discovering Moonlight and Sunshine, we’ve been using that exclusively because it runs so much smoother.

As someone who has chronic health issues nd increasingly severe Memory Impairment (possibly early onset Alzheimers), I would give almost anything for the perfect health. Hell, I would be over the moon just for average health.

I can’t even begin to explain how much it hurts to be surrounded by people who could choose to be healthy but are just apathetic, uncaring, lazy or ignorant of how much of a blessing it is to be able to exercise, get fit, run, swim or even jut walk round without feeling utterly exhausted after or to remember the things they love and enjoy.
