There was a pretty strong reaction against marriage equality/trans acceptance in the u.s. The whole Alpha Male shit started then and only grew more and more toxic as time went on. amerikan/western masculinity was never great but got much worse when marriage equality happened. Add in the fact that people never really recovered from 2008 and thats only getting worse, you got a recipe for classic fascism. The weirmar republic was tolerant , had a vibrant LGBTQ scene, the sexual Institute (that the nazis burned all the books) etc etc and then came the extreme reaction.
