  • Does NC in this context mean “no contact”, as in 52 days post breakup? I don’t know how long you were seeing each other, but still feeling hurt after 52 days post being cheated on, is completely healthy and understandable. It is a horrible experience that can easily take a toll on your confidence, at minimum. Hell, a ordinary, healthy breakup can do that to people. Breakups leaves scars, it breaks people. It is horrible and gruesome.

There is however nothing anyone can offer you that will make this go away, no matter much they would want to. The boring answer is to be kind to yourself, do not fall for the idea to contact them - ever again, and let time do its thing. I know it sucks to hear, and you probably heard it a lot by now from others by now, and you’re already done with the first 50 days too (great job!).

I’ve spent the last 7 years missing my ex, and honestly I still do, but it isn’t even remotely comparable to how I dealt with the first two years. The hurt you feel at day 52, will hurt less on day 365, on day 1095 you might find yourself thinking about it less and less, until you one day are ready to move on.

And in the meantime, do what ever you need to in order to keep your head above water, one day at a time.

Edit: I just read some of your post history and I read about the breakup and that your ex asked ChatGPT “how to impress girls”… I think that you will hopefully look back on this and ask yourself why the fuck you wasted your time on such a selfish little boy. Perhaps you’re young, and that doesn’t take the hurt away, but it means that you’ll hopefully have an easier way to deal with this experience in a couple of years.

  • I doomscroll Lemmy /and/or my most recent find which I found to be an excellent source for AI/LMM related news that’s actually interesting, hackernews. I also keep a radio plugged in next to my bed, with one of the public service radio channel tuned in 24/7. During the night they usually do reruns of various educational shows that aired during the day, no music, no advertisements, just dull, calm voices speaking about some mildly interesting topics, like gardening tips for example. I lower the volume a bit so I have to really focus if I want to actually listen, otherwise it’s just comfortable noise. It helps a bit with my usual overthinking that usually hits whenever I go to bed.

I’ve also dabbed my toes in some ASMR and podcasts, and while I found a couple that sort of worked. The tradeoff is that I have to use my phone speakers to listen to anything streamable, which includes me rolling and tossing during the night, and my phone either ends up under me, or has been tossed around so much that I can’t find it by the next morning. Often with a drained battery too, which is just an annoying way to start your day.

a few big artists, who ironically aren’t necessarily even that good.

I get your point and all, but I just had to ask - how do you define and separate ‘good’ from ‘bad’ art, though?

I agree with you though, the traditional art world is no different from any other industry under capitalism. It’s filled with sharks, ass kissing and networking. Most either come from fame, and/or from a wealthy family who’s willing to support them. It’s more important to be a driven entrepreneur with good social skills and the right connections, than an artist.

  • Proton Drive for photo storage is a horrible experience, though. As someone who has been relying on the free tier Proton accounts for cloud based photo storage for the past year, currently sitting at roughly ~2k files currently that I am very dedicated to keep - How is it a horrible experience?

  • Why should OpenAI be held responsible for this particular incident? Because their LLM recommended the user to contact a suicide hotline when he expressed his suicidal thoughts? Because it correctly answered his questions and confirmed that the safety of his shotgun was off? Don’t get me wrong, I like having companies held accountable as much as the next guy, but why don’t you ask the gun production companies to be held responsible as well? Hell, we might as well be asking for his parents to be held accountable for their offspring’s actions.

Yes, LLM’s can, with or without external manipulation, provide information about sensitive subjects, which can then be consumed by vulnerable individuals who may act in a harmful way. That individual would have acted and reached the same outcome not matter if the LLM would have existed or not, because there are multiple options to using an LMM to gather information.

What are the realistic expectations of OpenAI to implement to prevent these things, that doesn’t automatically mean stricter restrictions to the user data privacy and further strengthen the control of citizens (thanks to the flourishing relationship between OpenAI and the American government)?
