  • Listen, I’m far from a Trump fan. And I don’t think he personally did anything productive ever personally. But facts are facts - his administration DID do a lot to help (or at least that was my personal experience). As one single example of many, I personally got help from warp speed White House / military folks to get me critical parts from the other side of the world in a little over a day. Asia to my doorstep, Friday end of day to Sunday morning. I thought I’d have to go to the port and pick it up - nope right to my damn hands. That one simple act literally got that vaccine into people about 2-3 weeks earlier.

It’s baffling - they did good things. Not all the good things, but good things nonetheless. And he was in a position to take credit for the whole thing, deserved or not and put a big feather in his cap. And then, all of a sudden, “vaccines are bad”. It’s like you can’t make this shit up. If he was smart he’d take that one thing and rile up his base with how amazing he is, and then get away with murder behind their backs. But instead he punches the gift horse in the mouth.

That’s how I know he’s not very smart.

  • I picked up palworld again. I like the recent improvements to controlling pals in the base. You can tell them to not do certain tasks and there are other base management qol fixes. I summoned one of those base bosses and it literally destroyed my entire base lol. It’s still a little grindy and boring but they are making positive changes.

Brotato on the steam deck has been occupying my time - I don’t know why I keep picking it back up. But I do.

I’m eyeing red dead redemption 2 - I’ve never played that. I’m also looking at Stellar Blade. I may pick one of those up and give it a go.

  • I see this sentiment a lot and I’ve disagreed. Something didn’t really click for me with Metroid prime - I much preferred the side scrollers. I think it has to do with controllers - up until then I was a mouse and keyboard person, the controller was jarring and janky.

Maybe I should revisit the series. I never thought it was a bad game, maybe I’ll appreciate it more the 2nd time around.

I do love me some Metroid games whatever the form.

Interestingly, there was a time not too long ago where there was no such thing as returning your carts. No place to put them, and store employees fetched them. I always return my cart so it doesn’t blow away and smash into someone’s car - but I bet a lot of boomers think nothing of leaving it wherever - because that’s kind of what you did.

  • So steam deck is arch based. I just installed arch on my desktop with gnome. I couldn’t get proton vpn to work at all until I installed network-manager-applet. Then it worked fine. (It wouldn’t connect). I had to do a ton of googling before I found that fix, I think a lot of people give up on proton vpn before they find that solution/dependency. It sounds like other packages can provide what proton-vpn is looking for, but I think network-manager-applet gets installed often enough as a dependency where it just works for some people, while for others getting proton to work is a chore. (I’m pretty sure it’s not installed on a fresh install with gnome - making getting proton to work on a bare bones install challenging). I dunno if that or another package is already there on the steam deck - but worth checking that line of troubleshooting out.

Now, if it’s not there - I don’t know the full dangers of installing that package on the steam deck, maybe someone smarter can comment on that. It should be noted that I installed network manager with pacman and proton vpn from the AUR. I don’t know how the flatpak would behave - but it didn’t work either without network manager installed.

    Good luck!
