I’m not a civil engineer, but based on my experience with traffic lights pushing the button doesn’t actually alter the order of operations for the lights, it just makes it so the next time there is a natural gap in traffic that would allow for safe crossing, the crosswalk light turns on. So it doesn’t affect drivers at all. I’m still not a fan of jaywalking unless the road is REALLY clear.

A lot of the big models were trained on reddit data with little indication whether there was selection for high quality content, which means to me that the overall training data quality is unreliable. If an LLM can hallucinate an answer, it can hallucinate its confidence value since that is also an answer.

I like that one as well. It’s cool to watch Mando do PG John Wick stuff, Rotta the Hutt was a surprisingly chill dude which was neat, and that part in the middle that was all puppets was a lot of fun to watch. Babu Frik was (in my opinion) the only good part of Rise of Skywalker, and the other little dudes in Mandalorian and Grogu were just as fun!

That should definitely be the barest minimum, it’s just insane to me how much one of these data centers demands. Even beyond the privacy/copyright concerns, it doesn’t seem to me like the benefits of training models faster justifies the costs.

I’m gonna throw some numbers around based on a conversation with my friend the other day.

He works at an oil refinery nearby and under heavy load the whole facility can use up to 150MW of electricity. That’s while being rated as one of the least environmentally harmful refineries in the US. They have ~300 acres of solar panels supplying ~35MW over the course of a full day (~50MW during daylight hours). That means 20~25% of their power needs are fully renewable.

He also mentioned that the new Meta datacenter going up nearby is projected to use ~400MW! That’s two and a half oil refineries! That also means that to cover its electricity use they would need to set up ~2800 acres of solar panels. That’s ~11 times the footprint of the datacenter itself and two large farms worth of space on some of the best farmland in the country!

They definitely should be 100% powering the facility with renewables, but even then I don’t think model training justifies the space and resources that need to be invested to accomplish that.

No-dress code?

I’ve found the recommendations in Tidal to be more hit or miss but overall better than Spotify since I switched almost a year ago. I felt that Spotify was pushing the same songs over and over, and I’d only find 1-3 new songs I liked a month. On Tidal it seems like the Daily Discovery playlist focuses on a genre I’ve been listening to, and while often none of the songs stick out, when it hits I’ll find 1-3 new songs that day, and it hits multiple times per month. It took a few months to get to that point though.

Most of my friends who have VR headsets have gotten enough satisfaction from it. The Steam Frame fixes the things about those older headsets such I will be getting one eventually.

Frankly, to be asking your question about internet speeds makes it obvious that you’ve done barely a cursory reading on what the Steam Frame is. Until you’ve fixed that I cannot take what you say seriously.

It actually matters more and more until the deadline for a special election has passed. Then it matters for another day or two in case Kentucky decides to hold a special election anyway. THEN it stops mattering when they never do.
