In fifth grade my teacher retired halfway through the year. He did nothing wrong, it was just his time to retire. So he taught half the year while training his replacement to take over. He is one of the best teachers I ever had.

On his last day he left us with this piece of advice.

“Credit Cards are a scam.” Then he explained in detail how they can be used to trap you in debt and keep you struggling. He said always use cash when you can, otherwise don’t buy what you can’t afford.

That was the only financial advice I ever got in all of my 12 years of schooling.

Are you gonna play the ‘That’s fair’ game? Meaning the first bad thing to happen to the phone you say that’s fair and leave it where it is forever just to buy a new phone to start over?

I’ll tell you why. Car wear and tear. Gas prices. Minimum to no tip. Or worse a tip that was changed to no tip after the fact. Traffic congestion and mileage of the trip.

There is a calculation every DD driver has to make to decide if an order is worth picking up or not. Tips are not guaranteed and they can be changed to 0 for up to an hour after the order. When a driver gets an order you see the projected payout, the pickup location, and the distance of the trip. You don’t get the details until you accept the trip.

The driver can pass an order but that is a hit that goes against your profile. Meaning at a certain point if your rejection rate is too high you’ll get worse orders and less orders. Smart DD drivers can calculate if a trip is worth it or not. The base rule of thumb is $2/mile before tip. So if a trip is offering $1 to go a mile it means no tip. At that point is the cost of gas worth it? No. Smart drivers don’t accept anything that.

In all orders the cost of the actual food isn’t factored into how much a driver gets paid. We’re not getting paid the restaurant’s cut. We’re getting paid to deliver. So if I see this order and the projected payout is like a dollar or worse 0.50 cents, I’m not taking it. It doesn’t matter what the mileage is at that point. It’s a negative transaction for the driver. You’re losing money.

So for most drivers if someone is that desperate for a candy bar they’re gonna have to tip minimum the cost of a gallon of gas for me to take it. Meaning they’re getting a super expensive candy bar. At that point you ask yourself if the candybar is worth it. To most people probably not. To DD drivers probably not. To a single someone desperate enough, even still probably not. If both parties involved are desperate enough then some lucky person is getting a candybar. Otherwise the only other way that’s getting accepted is if the order is grouped together with multiple orders at once.

Source was a DD/UE driver last summer. Broke even until my car was totaled. Then it became a wasted summer. I still don’t have a vehicle.

They’re in the same vein but it’s some of the best chiptune-esque music I’ve ever heard. They’re not these one note, one tempo, same vibe over and over again tracks. They have feeling and movement. Almost melancholic at times. Scary in the case of HLD. They remind me a lot of mid 2010s prog metal in some respects. Not the heaviness or the distorted guitars, but the melodies and creativity with sound that pushed music forward in those years. Like the last track of the Cobalt Core ost flows right into My Last Serenade by Killswitch Engage and it’s a chefs kiss of greatness. They’re both top 5 video game ost for me.

Lol those were the days. I remember Simcity 4 releasing back then and how quickly my mod folder blue up. Then by the time that game was old it was only 2.15gb and that was nothing. The jump from >10gb to 50gb games was insane. Now the jump to 100+ Gb hurts a lot. Any time a game is iN MB I do a little happy dance.

This explanation helps a lot. I was watching Maxamillion_Dood play online and it seemed like every other track they selected was random. And when it wasn’t he clearly didn’t know what lap they started on. Like the race would be over the first time they crossed the finish line. Everytime that happened Max was confused. Even to me as a viewer that seemed weird. I couldn’t tell what was going on either. First time I ever watched a Mario Kart game and had a hard time telling what was going on.

I recently started playing around with Reaper on Linux. It’s no different from it’s windows counterpart. You can use something like yabridge to use third party VSTs. All I had to do was point it to my VST folder and viola, almost all of them work. The only problem I have is that none of them work graphically. The sound works and they render just fine but for some reason clicking on a knob or button is waaaay off. For example in Pro-Q, if I put the mouse by the top of the plugin the frequency knob will highlight like the mouse is on top of knob. Nothing happens if the mouse is actually on top. This may be a yabridge issue. Their GitHub does say Wine versions greater than 9.22 don’t work. I’m on the latest Wine and haven’t fucked with different versions yet. If the fix is that simple then the experience is no different for me at least. Otherwise I just have to use the UI-less mode where Reaper turns the plugins into a series of sliders you can adjust instead.
