Love giving reinforcement “assignments.” It’s great when you find a game that they prefer to play over Fortnite for a week or so.
I had a lot of success with take-home Zentangle activities for lower elementary.

Don’t forget to mention these things take time, sweetie. It’s not like ann episode of West Wing, sweetie. Biden has his own agenda, sweetie.
What’s up with insurance customers assuming that their medical needs will be covered? Ugh. Entitled millennials.
I love that a large portion of my paycheck goes to the privilege of having insurance that applies to nothing. It’s a neat system.
I like good news
You gotta keep in mind false negatives are most commonly caused by user error and the test not detecting enough COVID antigens in the sample. Antigen tests gauge infectiousness. But even if you have symptoms you may still test negative because your body isn’t producing enough of the measurable antigens. So the antigen tests are one good tool to help gauge when you are no longer infectious.
If you’re testing negative after 14 days but still have symptoms then you might still be infectious.
Just as a reminder, these are antigen tests.
Antigen tests help to gauge infectiousness. PCR tests gauge if you’ve contracted the virus.
Antigen tests will be NEGATIVE if your body is not producing a certain amount of COVID antigens (ie you were just infected). If you’re worried that you may have contracted COVID and/or are asymptomatic then you NEED A PCR TEST.
And if you do have COVID please use an antigen test 14 days after your first positive test (whether that was antigen or PCR) and KEEP TESTING EVERY 48 HOURS UNTIL YOU ARE NEGATIVE.
Oh and WEAR A GODDAMN MASK
As a teacher I can almost guarantee this was the final straw in a long line of Ohio behavior.
I have the odd hopeful dream of everyone taking COVID and climate change seriously. It’s usually subtle, like I’m visiting relatives and don’t have to worry so much because I remember that everyone masks again for some reason. And there’s inexplicably lots of light rail around my American midwest suburban house. It’s nice.
The years of DARE propaganda continue to do unimaginable harm.
It’s actually because he threatened to tell the media Obama’s last name.
No class consciousness without COVID consciousness
Not wanting discomfort is understandable. I’m not trying to be facetious by saying this, but have you considered the discomfort that comes with COVID infections, for yourself and those you would potentially infect?
KN95s offer a great deal of protection. You can get/make ear-savers as well if that’s an issue (a seal check is mandatory if you do this because it changes the contour of the mask).
Sometimes I recommend IFM N95 A105, which is very similar to fold style kN95s. You can try duckbill or cup styles too.
And there’s of course plastic reusable p100 respirators, which a lot of people would associate with industrial uses. Next to adhesive seal respirators, they are most effective.
I will try hard to make time to report some comments and explain why those comments should be reported. As you can imagine, it will take time to do that. Please understand that I will find that a personally frustrating process, but I’ll try.
This thread offers a lot of insight you might find informative.
In general we are not angry at individuals for not wearing masks. What’s discouraging is the comments that attempt to justify not masking because it’s supposedly fruitless or ineffective. That sentiment is in that thread, a lot. Practically nobody in this comm is going to claim that your individual efforts in COVID mitigation are more important than widespread public health measures. But until public health is prioritized by governments we have an obligation to do what we can to keep each other safe. Does that make sense?
Also a reminder that it’s never healthy to be infected by virus.
Everyone should read this article. I wish more people would understand this basic as hell fact.
I believe (without any serious research into the subject) that when people ask for super granular masking directions they are looking for a way out. So they can say, “Well that’s too complicated! I’m not going to mask at all now!”
How hard is it really to put on a mask when you’re at risk of getting the virus? When people ask I kind of refuse to be specific. I just say, “indoors and away from your home.”
I’m sorry you got it :(. I hope you’re feeling okay.
Are you waiting a few weeks to get the updated booster? I’ve read some time ago that’s recommended. Not sure how accurate that is now though.
Maybe I should just make the switch too. There’s a lot of “I’m an edgy teenager” vibes from there. Sucks because I like the more serious tone of a lot of the comms. But when you got people saying that “only anarchists mask because they’re concerned about optics” you are playing team sports. You are a liberal at that point. I’m so fucking embarrassed.
They deserve the harshest socialist insult there is:
They’re deeply unserious people.
Graded homework is a great way to reinforce and expand classroom learning when the material conditions at home allow for academic success.
If a child doesn’t have a learning environment at home then homework is just going to be a burden. OP is doing a great thing by giving their students nongraded homework. It’s good practice for the students to find a place/time at home to do a fun, low stakes activity at home.
