Yeah, many are by now, they feel way strong. We have state level elections in two weeks, and I’m genuinely scared.

Yeah, you would think so, but we have weekly demonstrations of Nazis in the streets (Pegida, Coronazis, people trying to disturb CSD parades,…), Nazis trying to get into parliaments and councils (AfD, parts of CDU), Nazis in talk shows and interview, Nazis writing for big newspapers, Nazis in our police and armed forces, … Just because they mostly don’t use 3rd Reich Nazi symbols, doesn’t make them any less Nazi, and Germany has far too much tolerance for them. It’s basically the same playbook as anywhere else: make small steps, undermine institutions, spread talking points, gain traction, destroy democracy.

As a German, I can assure you that there’s still a metric shitton of Nazis here, and as far as I’m concerned, they could fuck all the way off.

Fellow German here. As a child I always thought that the black man must be Death himself, wearing a black robe, his face on eternal shadow, bringing darkness to all who meet him. And of you get hit by the ball, death will come and “reap” you from the game. THAT’S someone to be afraid of.

It was only much later I learned that it could also be interpreted as a hurtful stereotype that should be avoided.
