To be fair, half of the AAA gaming industry is all about trying to clone the latest successful game with a new coat of paint. Maybe using AI to make these clones will mean that the talented people behind the scenes are free to explore other ideas instead.
Of course in reality, it just means that the largest publishers will lay off a whole lot of people and keep churning out these uninspired games in the name of corporate profits, but it’s nice to dream sometimes.
I’m playing through New Vegas right now. I have one of the back buttons assigned to quicksave. I also changed the default camera button to one of the back buttons, because I don’t use it often enough to warrant it being on the bumpers. And I have just assigned one to toggle collision, because sometimes you need that when playing something built in the Gamebryo engine.
At least with Metallica, we could laugh at the irony of a band regularly releasing songs about anarchy crying about piracy.
If it helps, there’s very little that carries over between the two games. Without any spoilers, you lose your gear at the start of the BG2, most of which doesn’t carry over anyway. You will start with the level you finished BG1 with, but BG2 boosts brand new characters to a certain level anyway. And I don’t think the games track decisions made throughout like modern RPGs do.
That said, I played it years before Beamdog released that interlude DLC, so maybe things have changed in their Enhanced releases of the games.

But Microsoft is doing exactly the same thing, only instead of paying for exclusivity of one title, they’re buying developers so not just their next title, but all future releases will be exclusive, up until MS decides they’re not worth it and dumps them.
Sony absolutely participates in anti-consumer practices, but let’s not pretend that MS is any better.
There is a mod on Nexus, the Life Saver Mod, which is supposed to auto save whenever you enter combat. But it hasn’t been updated since 2020 and doesn’t work on the release version. Hopefully the author comes back to it, or someone releases something similar.
The gripes I see about save-scumming usually come from those who would prefer not to but don’t have impulse control, so they’d prefer developers to take away from players who don’t care, and have valid reasons for doing so like you listed.
They’re fundamentally different systems. RTWP tends to be faster and more reactionary because everything happens at once. Turn-based is more strategic, because you can only react to things after they happen, but it is a lot slower.
RTWP games do tend to have auto-pause options that can be set up to simulate turn-based systems, but no amount of pausing will change the way the game plays when not paused.
Microsoft are no longer interested in selling consoles necessarily, otherwise they’d be holding stuff back from PC as well. They’re interested in getting people into their ecosystem through Game Pass.
And while I agree with you that Sony and Nintendo have used plenty of anti-consumer practices, Microsoft has also done so in the past and I think the only reason they’ve been more pro-consumer of late is because they’ve been the underdog for a long time now. I would be anticipating a change in their behaviour the more people they get to subscribe to Game Pass, and this Activision-Blizzard deal is a huge step towards that.
You could still give Knight a go. The folks over at protondb seem to be reporting that it runs just fine even without official Deck support.
But Asylum and City are both great games so definitely play those first.
Is there a way to view the different categories via Discovery Queue? The Store Page isn’t great for checking out multiple different games in quick succession, particularly since the lists reorder themselves every time the page reloads.
