Do you put the charcoal under each grill or just in the middle and it routes heat up the “chimneys”?

Similar here. I’m in the US but not one of the wealthy states or tech havens. I’ve got 8 years of cloud admin and integrations development and make about $85k/yr (70k Eur?). I’m one of the best paid people I know I my area.

Finally moved everything to the basement.

Spent years with everything in the office with me. Used to run some pretty old and noisy devices too lol. I always wanted to move everything somewhere else to cut down on noise but that means cables to run and total disassembly. Finally bit the bullet and moved it all last Saturday. The office has never been so peaceful

Instead of swapping the entire dock, I have a USB switch for mouse and keyboard and then an HDMI switch for the monitors. Also let’s you mix and match monitors easily

At least that was true at one point. Not sure if its still holds true today. For awhile they were basically the only ones with coverage in many rural areas.

Currently on an oil system that uses baseboard radiators throughout the house. Didn’t realize a heat pump could potentially tie into the same system but am going to look into it now. Anything to watch out for in your experience?

Yeah the author talks about how on the old internet it was great that you’d just stumble across people on blogs\rss, mailing lists, and other things you subscribe to. Then just chucks all that to the side and sets up automated ways to force his work in front of people.

Trust me I wish we could go back. Not just to before llms became popular but back to when it took at least a little knowledge and effort to host things online. The internet used to be so cool and full of unique stuff.

Unfortunately though I fear the toothpaste is already out of the tube with llms.

As tempting as it might be, don’t use AI in the learning stages. Spending time figuring out why your program isn’t working is what really cements that knowledge in.

Personally I always get excited by process automaton. Been a minute since I’ve done any VBA but my favorite projects I used it for were probably:

1. Bulk updating CAD models and drawings as part of rebranding. (Solidworks)
2. Interacting with a 5250 emulator (AS400) to automate the data entry/extraction I was doing

Depending on age/interest there’s stuff like luanti

Favorite I’ve had was a switch just sitting on the panels of a drop ceiling. Wasn’t documented that’s where it was either. I spent an hour or so hunting around a department when somebody mentioned, “there’s that tech thing in the ceiling”.

Nice. Haven’t tried IpFire but gonna give it a look. Been on OpnSense for a couple years now and have been enjoying it.

Small static websites. You can get surprisingly performant and easily managed websites if you don’t actually need the overhead of common frameworks. For instance giving your kid a real domain they can update and show to their friends.

On the slightly more resource intensive side, OpnSense has been a game changer for me.
