  • I absolutely fuckin hate this. It’s almost the equivalent of YouTube removing the dislike button.

I am leaving this account behind because of this change, which is incredibly frustrating to have to do, since I had many saved posts and I already had been blocking the communities I don’t like to see rather than downvoting their posts, so I have to redo all of this on a new instance.

Downvotes are an integral part of a voting system, and are especially critical in low population environments like this. I don’t care how many “likes” a post has, what matters is the up/down ratio. Now lemmynsfw has lost that.

  • It sends a message to the 2nd party that they’re not doing enough for my vote. If they want my vote, they’ll have to change their policies to be more like the party I voted for.

If the losing party loses by 10,000 votes, and 10,000 people voted third party, guess what, the strategists are going to try to find a way to capture those votes.

Without those 10,000 votes for 3rd party, the 2nd party either does nothing or tries to get votes from the other side, moving their policies further toward the 1st party.

I would say in the current political climate, 3rd party voting is more important than ever. The idea that it’s a vote for the other side is an absolute farce, an attempt at preventing change, and couldn’t be further from the truth.

  • There’s a huge part of it that is because there’s no communication mechanism to resolve conflict on the road, really.

If you’re stuck behind someone going slower than you want to, how can you clearly communicate that?

Even in a world where you could clearly speak to them, there’s huge potential for disagreement there, and since the only communication mechanisms can very easily be construed as needlessly dangerous or aggressive, of course you’re gonna see frustration and anger as a result

  • The way out of it is improving all of the other parts of American life. Improve healthcare so we don’t have so many desperately unhealthy poor people. Tax the rich and regulate white collar noncrimes (and enforce the crimes) so we don’t have as many desperately poor people. Improve the availability of housing, reform the police, fund public schools and pay teachers a decent wage, idfk what to do with the media but that sucks too. Get rid of first past the post voting so people feel like they can actually enact change through their representatives.

Virtually every aspect of non-wealthy American life is currently “in a crisis” as reported by the media. Further reducing the rights that individuals have is not the answer to there being a surplus of people past their breaking point.

Looking at gun violence as a gun problem instead of a violence problem is shortsighted, when people have less access to guns than ever.

  • Exactly the same here. Did I somehow click something behind the camera, causing my moron to run directly at the giant enemy crab I just managed to carefully avoid? Yeah I’ll reload.

Same if it’s a dialogue option I (or the NPC I’m talking to) clearly misunderstood. In tabletop or real life it could be cleared up by “no, party member, I only told the bad guy I’d help him as a lie” even if it added a persuasion or deception check. In game, there’s just no dialogue option to say “sorry, i didn’t mean it that way” in most situations. See also: accidentally romancing the wrong person as many players apparently do
