An option this movie has is to tie into the backstory of Star Trek: Picard, and possibly even explain why the Romulan Sun went supernova in the first place! I doubt this will be the case, as it will probably be set in the Kelvin Timeline, sometime after the Narada destroys the U.S.S. Kelvin.!<
