whether people where Crocs in public or not.
Opinions? I prefer to call them facts!
The culture wars shit that ya see on social media
Cheesecake. I love it both with and without raisins.
Eating Asian food using forks. Preparing meat well-done. Cutting pasta with a knife. Using cutlery when eating pizza. Basically everything that people say has a “right way” of eating. What difference does it make to you if you’re not the one eating?
Once you’ve seen kids try to eat soup with their hands, you’ll start enforcing stupid rules too. On one hand, I don’t care in the slightest about ‘etiquette’ but God help me, stop using your offhand to shovel pasta into a spoon and then dropping half of it. Sit up straight, utensil over your plate and put your utensil down when you’re not using it.
But, like, put pineapple on pizza and enjoy your steak how you want it.
Coke, Pepsi and most all cola flavored things don’t taste different enough to matter.
Except Diet Coke. Attempt to landing there.
Sports.
I feel like Maurice and Roy watching football in IT Crowd’s “Are we not men?”-episode.
I think powerscaling is stupid so any powerscaling discussion beyond “this is stupid” is not something I feel strongly about
what does it mean?
I generally agree, but I can make one exception: when there’s a clear power system it can be fun to talk about how one power would fare against another. Not so much scaling the characters themselves but pitching their powers’ themes against one another, like some advanced rock-paper-scissors thing. One Piece used to allow for things like this at one point, (before new power systems were included) like rubber > thunder > ice > rubber.
Pre timeskip one piece was so good
Who or what is “the best” of something. Any genre I can think of: Sports, art, food, engineering, design, whatever. Or I guess I kind of do, if you have some wild take that I don’t understand at all, but the discussions where people are like “lebron or kobe?” or “poe or shakesspeare?” I just do not get. “What’s the best anime?” eh. There’s no best of anything, it’s all just a matter of definition.
Hockey is the best sport.
Sure
Pineapple on pizza. I don’t care. I don’t order it, but will eat it and not complain if served it.
Seeing as we’re on lemmy and I’m sure other people here hold very strong opinions on these things:
- terminals
- text editors
I really don’t understand why people get so fixated on these things. Can I type in it, and they do the thing? 10/10 no notes.
Happy enough w/ most terminal emulators, but with Vim, it’s not hard finding programs for just about anything that mimic the keybind philosophy and I can keep my mits on the homerow where (i feel) they belong.
For me it’s muscle memory. I’ve grown used to all sorts of features and shortcuts over time and I can work faster when I can use them freely without thinking about it. If I switch tools I need to adjust to everything that is different about it and that takes time - and I can’t really develop muscle memory for two different tools, I need to forget one to get used to another.
As a quick example: I’ve been using alt+arrow for two decades to navigate between individual words within variable names in camelCase. Every text editor I’ve used over time supported this as the OS itself implements it. Then comes VSCode with its own implementation overriding this and removing this capacity and then every time I need to navigate between words I’ll either have to use a mouse, move one character at a time or even worse: press this shortcut I’m used to and trigger some other feature that is assigned to it that I didn’t want to trigger.
Terminal emulators I only notice when they are a problem and for some reason, terminal emulators are on my mind again recently. :-(
Celebrity gossip. I find it really difficult to care about what some celebrity said about something.
wait this seems like a strong opinion that celebrity gossip isn’t interesting. wouldn’t the neutral position here be that you would like to know what’s going on with your fave celebs but don’t go out of your way?
It’s making me kinda sad you can’t imagine someone just… Not having “fave celebs”
I’ve never gotten this either. Having an artist who’s work you enjoy and follow because they have a history of making something you like? Sure, but beyond that why care?
It’s not like an actor magically has a good talk on anything or is an expert on anything. They’re just famous.
oh no i can, i cbf about celebrities personally. I was just being pedantic as to whether the top reply here matches the prompt
Thank goodness ;)
Music and tv shows.
Pineapple on pizza.
I think people should just eat what they enjoy.
For me personally, I don’t like it. However, I do still have a strong opinion on it. I think it’s a fantastic flavor combination! It’s a nice combination of salty, sweet, and savory. If a professional chef were making a pizza, and they had never heard of one before, something like the Hawaiian pizza is what I’d expect them to make. I don’t really like pineapple though, so it’s not for me.
Sports? I think it’s a tribalistic waste of time and money, but people are allowed to like what they like.
That kinda sounds like an opinion
But not a strong opinion.
waste of time and money
strong enough
Is it? Lot of stuff is a waste of time and money if you don’t care for it. It doesn’t mean you have a strong opinion about it. Like it could just mean you’d never spend your own time and money on it, but other people can if they want to. Since every recreational thing is a waste of time and money to someone who doesn’t like it.
We’re getting into a semantic and subjective argument here but I would say ‘I don’t like sports’ or ‘I don’t care for it’ is a basic/mild (negative) opinion.
IMO ‘a waste of time and money’ has some conviction to it.
Imagine someone saying that about something you personally care for?i mean i do plenty of things that are wastes of time and moeny. What’s wrong with that? We’re hairless apes who like to do silly stuff.
yes
Precisely.
