University of Minnesota's Michael Osterholm is leading an effort to prepare for such a crisis.

The real question that wasn’t answered in the article: how does this disease spread? If it only spreads via eating parts of an infected animal, it’s fairly easy to contain. If it spreads through bodily fluids, it’s like HIV/AIDS and can be mitigated. If it spreads via contact (handshakes, doorknobs etc) it’s a nightmare. If it somehow is airborne, well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpFzESVN-xU

I believe it was spread through urination of the deer on plants, it was very resilient to any environmental factors.

This is the place for discussing the potential collapse of modern civilization and the environment.

Collapse, in this context, refers to the significant loss of an established level or complexity towards a much simpler state. It can occur differently within many areas, orderly or chaotically, and be willing or unwilling. It does not necessarily imply human extinction or a singular, global event. Although, the longer the duration, the more it resembles a ‘decline’ instead of collapse.
