Is the surface pro 10 a modern working tablet?
According to the feature matrix it works good. Does anyone own one? Is there another one that I missed?
I want a new laptop/tablet. I don’t play games. I just write prose most of the time or write code. Arm, touchscreen and handy device size seems to be the only awesome innovation compared to my old laptop in my view.
I’m gonna be honest brother, right now there aren’t any good ARM tablets running linux that aren’t overpriced and niche products or laptops without a keyboard.
The closest you get for a tablet on a price is taking a look on what https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Devices has to offer, i’ve also seen some github pages about people running linux on Xiaomi MI Pads.
like this one. I can’t garantee you’re going to have a good experience running it this way, but you technically can.
I also encourage you to look for x86 tablets on aliexpress, some of them are decent and will run any linux distro you want.
What about the framework 12? Its a 2 in 1 akin to the lenovo yoga.
I absolutely love my fw13.
It’s x86
I like my surface pro 3, worked for 13 years or so
Thx!
I believe mine is a surface 10 and it works fabulously. I have cachyos running on it. You just nees to follow the guide but it works really well. I think the one thing that doesn’t work is the camera.
Edit: I take it back, mine is a 9 not a 10
From the Linux-first vendors, I am only aware of Star Labs’ StarLite. Their products are pretty good, though a bit price~y.
It is very expensive for what it is but it looks to be a solid computer. But it is x86. Isn’t that very bad for a tablet?
It’s kinda bad but not very bad - ARM processors tend to be more efficient but there are some good x86 chips for portable devices as well
Just keep in mind eficiency isn’t 1:1 for a $800 x86 laptop and a $800 ARM tablet
It’s not fully available yet, but you might be interested in an Indiegogo project called open_slate
I’ve backed it 'cause I want to see a good Linux tablet. I can’t say that this one will be good, as it hasn’t shipped to anyone… If nothing else it’s one measure of interest for future products
Edit to add: it also is ARM architecture
if you want non x86 maybe https://pine64.com/product-category/pinetab/
(you have to add like 100-200$ to the price for shipping and import tax, depending on where you live)
I have lots of other hardware from them and it’s solid.
Aren’t they more like dev devices with low specs?
I have a minisforum V3, which works pretty well, but may be overkill for you and I’m not sure about current availability.
First look is good but that’s x86. Isn’t that very bad for a tablet?
Has pros and cons.
I use it more like a PC in tablet form factor, which for me is best of both worlds.
But it might be bad for you.
