Previous post here https://lemmy.zip/post/61844, reposting as the community had to move due to vlemmy.net closing.

Why I created another news community?

Spreading the communities to not all be centered around a few big instances. Just a few days ago lemmy.world and lemmy.ml were down at the same time, rendering biggest news communities inaccesible.
I also was sad to see that a lot of “World News” communities had an exclusion rule of a certain region. Which made no sesne to me.

Ah, a fellow VLemmy refugee. It’s honestly a really big shame about our previous instance, but it looks like we each found a new home. I’ll join your new community, I like to be subscribed to as many of the news communities as possible.

The admin just bailed one day without saying a word or giving any warning. He was literally recruiting admins a day before. Some people though it was domain issues, but he closed all the support/donation links too.

I’m personally a believer that it was because he didn’t want to deal with the potential legal trouble from federated content, but it really is a mystery.

Even if that’s the case, it doesn’t excuse just bailing without any warning or explanation. It was a shitty thing to do.

Oh, no disagreements there. It was very shitty and greatly inconvenienced a great many people, pyarra could have at least posted a goodbye post and given us a warning before abandoning the instance.

You mean they don’t include US news, and yours does?

I agree with you that more news communities is a good idea.

As well as your own new community, you would probably enjoy the world news at kbin social, their rules specifically state that US news is world news.
