There was allegedly a recent AIPAC memo to their mouthpieces to denounce settler violence (I can’t remember my source for that, but the mouthpieces have been doing it recently in what appears to be a coordinated manner). This could be another form of that to slightly launder the hawks’ reputations.
That and loudly saying “I don’t take AIPAC* money” while still taking plenty of zionist lobbying money just not AIPAC specifically so what they said can be technically correct
