In in the same boat as you, right down to the industry. Except I’m in the US and I’m only experienced enough to be a level 2 tech.

I have a friend tracking down a hybrid position lead at his company, but the commute for the in person days would be 1.5 hrs at least one way. He’s going to be seeing what the pay is and how many days I’d need to be in the office so I know if it’d be worth it. I don’t want to waste my time and the time of his coworkers if the pay and schedule wouldn’t be right.

seems like alot of tech and biotech have commutes equally around 1.5hrs on average 1 way with public transportation. alot of them seemed to based outside of major cities.

I live outside of a large city and would be commuting into it. Wanting to live kinda rural and work in tech was not a good idea, but I’m in too deep now. -_-

oh yea in west coast thats where the tech/biotech buildings are. just not easy commute, even with a car is somewhat painful unless you can find something in the city you are living in.

I’m in the easterm part of the country on top of everything else. In a very poor area. I’m looking at a commute if I can’t find a remote position. I currently work fully remote because I am very immunocompromised. I’m terrified of even hybrid positions getting me ill. I caught a cold that’s slowly turning into pneumonia and I just can’t fight it off. I have the feeling I’m going to end up hospitalized from it.

Considering I’ve been doing this stuff for over a decade and have met less than a handful of people with the same technical expertise as I have, and I haven’t met anyone that’s more skilled… I’m pretty sure I should be making at least 6 figures… Nobody will pay that much for what I do.

I’m not trying to brag or anything. It’s just that I keep ending up in the position of having to educate everyone around me on how things actually work, and how to fix them. I spend more time in the bowels of Windows operating systems that the registry makes sense to me.

Damn that really sucks. I’m sorry you aren’t appreciated for your skills and have to take on the role of teacher instead of doing your actual work.

I end up doing both and then management sees a gap in my time entries where I was helping someone, and they come down on me for not doing enough.

It’s as if, if I’m not doing billable tasks, then I’m lazy and I’m not working… Because y’know, I show up to work and just fuck around all day unless I’m being watched constantly by management.

Yo I totally get that time entry shit. I get automatic hate mail from my boss if I don’t hit 6 hrs of billable time. There’s a lot of unbillable duties I do in my position, so a lot of days I don’t hit my 6 and it’s annoying as fuck.

My boss is also a passive aggressive pos that I could rant about all day.
