A LOT of failed ballots on purpose. The two main political parties of FF and FG really fucked up the election. They’re both center right and have been in power here since literally the inception of the country. FG’s candidate was an uncharismatic career politician with ties to the Orange Order, couldn’t speak Irish, and couldn’t form a coherent sentence on live TV and especially did poor in the debates and in interviews. She was their second choice after the party’s number one choice dropped out early on due to illness. FF ran a former Gaelic sports coach who was also a landlord and he had to drop out because it was revealed during the election process he stole thousands of Euros from someone renting from him years ago. The election has been disastrous for the powers and government in charge of the country. THe media, FF, FG, capital class, etc are throwing a fit over how bad of a job they’re doing and how much everyone hates them.
Hitlerism is on the rise here and the far right candidate literally fucked up her election early on by apply to late and was never able to run. So now there are thousands of spoiled ballots with racist shit.
She’s an outspoken critic of neoliberalism and an advocate for public housing as a human right.

Center is safer than the suburbs here. If you are a POC city center where I used to live is mostly immigrants from India, Africa, Asia, and the middle east.
The suburbs of North west, and south west dublin, especially Tallaght, jobstown, Balleyfermot etc are where all the racist white people are who attack immigrants. I live in that area now and its a lot less safe here than fucking city center.

Im kinda betting on IRish politics being years behind on everything else so that by the time western fascism blows up in its face again it just wont happen here. The same thing as last time sweetie. I’m belgian. My grandparents they lived through nazi occupation. My grandma was like 14 with her 8yo sisters. They took over an abandonned farm. They were alone. The parents stayed. Her dad was part of a resistance network that put a mess in the train system and hid people from the nazis.
