Defeat of Tsarist absolutism, defeat of Nazism, universal healthcare and free education to the highest level, lowest inequality rates in the history of the region, doubling of life expectancy in the span of 30 years, guaranteed housing and abolition of homelessness, abolition of unemployment, respect and promotion of local languages and cultures to an until-then unseen degree (compare the evolution of Occitan speakers to that of Uzbek speakers), representation of women in institutions and having more female engineers by the 1960s than the rest of the world combined, urban planning based on pedestrians and public transit, support of anti-imperialist struggles all over the global south, unparalleled levels of worker unionization… All of this saved a hundred million lives in the USSR alone.

I do call all of this much more successful than any other system we’ve had. There were mistakes, as in any real political project, but actually winning the class war is one of the biggest markers of success.
