From the linked New York Times article:
In a statement on social media, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth made no mention of any friction with his four-star commander. “On behalf of the Department of War,” said Mr. Hegseth, using the name of the department he now prefers, “we extend our deepest gratitude to Admiral Alvin Holsey for his more than 37 years of distinguished service to our nation as he plans to retire at year’s end.”
Very funny that the Times insists on calling him Defense Secretary and tut-tutting about the name change when the military is indiscriminately blowing people out of the water. Yup, sounds like defense to me! God forbid we besmirch the integrity of The Institutions™.
The golden rule of :LIB: is to never remove the fig leaf.
At least the name’s honest now, moreso than when it was the Department of Defense where America would be ‘defending’ itself from impoverished people on a different continent
I forget where I heard it, but someone said it’s like when the Terminator loses it’s human skin. It’s kind of refreshing in a way to see the monsters no longer pretending.
