Image, sourced from this article, is of George Bush in 2002 meeting with María Corina Machado, who was even then being trained as a figure to oppose Venezuelan socialism, and very briefly succeeded with the Carmona Decree. Now the latest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, she has begged the Zionist entity to drop bombs on the Venezuelan people.

As of me writing these sentences, it appears that the ceasefire in Gaza is underway. Zionist ceasefires are, of course, an oxymoron - not only in the grand sense that their work to continue genocidal atrocities against others locally and regionally will not cease until the Zionist entity’s occupation of Palestine is overthrown and Palestinians can resume the governance of their territory - but also in the literal sense; that bombings and shootings are often only merely reduced, and rarely cease entirely (as was/is the case on their northern border with Lebanon). Nonetheless, hopefully the population can receive some aid, and the long process of rebuilding can begin.

On the other side of the world, it seems increasingly likely that a new war is set to begin. Because the US is eschewing the usual process of generating pro-war propaganda and casus bellis (aside from a laughably transparent Nobel Peace Prize award) and seems content to just skip straight to the “bomb and depose” step, it’s quite hard to predict what precisely they want to do. Anything seems to be on the table - from freely striking Venezuelan territory where “drug dealers” are to try and prompt a Venezuelan response, to assassinating Maduro and/or his generals and hoping a power vacuum can be filled with compradors, to attempting to outright invade Venezuela and establish direct American control over important government sites. All appear to be possibilities, though as of right now, the most drastic measures seem unlikely due to their difficulty.

We know that the US has almost totally abandoned diplomatic communication with Venezuela, and that the US has deployed warships, a nuclear submarine, F-35s, surveillance planes, and at least 4,000 military personnel to the Caribbean, with some sources putting the numbers higher. Some people have suggested that the point is to try and force Maduro into a situation where he must begin hostilities, or be seen as weak and perhaps overthrown from within. It is at least encouraging that Maduro is not like Allende in Chile, and is taking this situation extraordinarily seriously; the masses are being trained and mobilized in the event of an invasion, and military drills are ongoing. Venezuela has no real capacity to stop the US from attacking and bombing them, but it is much more possible to prevent a West-friendly puppet from gaining meaningful control of the country. A comprador might be able to make a brief statement or decree in a Venezuelan city saying that Chavismo is over, but actual power will hopefully prove very elusive.

2020, and particularly 2022, has clearly become a turning point for the Western imperial system, in which increasingly aggressive and reckless moves are required to keep the system functional (stability is, at this point, out of the question). Unfortunately, this has also resulted in the deaths of many long-lasting, inspiring figures, such as Nasrallah, and many more will certainly die before the empire collapses. If Maduro is assassinated - and I’m having trouble imagining how he won’t be doggedly pursued in the days. weeks, and months to come - I have hope that a successor will rise to continue to lead the Bolivarian Revolution.

Statement by Hamas’s military wing, the Qassam Brigades:

“The resistance has abided by the terms of the agreement. We have handed over all the living prisoners in our custody, as well as the bodies we were able to retrieve. As for the remaining bodies, locating and extracting them requires extensive efforts and special equipment. We are exerting great efforts to close this file.”

I know that the Soviets and Americans left behind some aircraft and aircraft related equipament in Afghanista, but is any of that operational? Does the Taliban even have an actual Airforce or just some transport helicopters?

I found the source of all the news articles talking about Ukraine receiving long range weapons today: Andrii Yermak’s telegram, head of the presidential office in Ukraine. Here’s what he had to say today:

Together with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council Rustem Umerov, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Serhiy Kyslytsya, and our Ambassador to the United States Olga Stefanishyna, we met with representatives of Lockheed Martin and Raytheon.

In the context of long range fires, Raytheon produces the BGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missile, and Lockheed Martin produces the AGM-158 JASSM family of stealth cruise missiles (JASSM, JASSM-ER, LRASM)

Working call from delegation members to the President of Ukraine. They reported on their first meetings in Washington, in particular on constructive talks with leading American defence companies and arms manufacturers on cooperation in the field of air defence, long-range weapons, aviation and other areas… we are preparing the groundwork for the leaders’ talks scheduled for Friday…We are counting on productive agreements. We thank the American side for their full cooperation.

Palestinian bodies returned by Israel blindfolded, signs of possible ‘field executions’

Some of the Palestinians’ bodies handed over by Israeli forces on Tuesday were blindfolded and handcuffed, medical sources tell Al Jazeera.

According to these sources, there are signs that several individuals may have been subjected to “field executions”.

Additionally, tank tracks were found on the bodies, suggesting that some may have been run over by Israeli vehicles.

I miss Africa Stream, but at least People’s Dispatch does good Africa coverage. Just not as frequent or expansive. Here’s their piece on Madagascar:

Unfortunately not a lot of info that will be new to folks in this thread. The situation on the ground remains too complicated and with too little external coverage to get a good grasp on.

maddened Been a couple of days since Portugal’s local elections, that I posted about here, and the reactions to the PS-led coalition losing to the right-wing incumbent in Lisbon’s election have already come it. Although the head of the coalition herself took full responsibility for the loss and did not blame the communist party for not backing her and her program, all the center-left to left commentary sphere, including some prominent commentators have not taken the hint from the fact that the parties of the coalition put together lost 15k votes from 2021, while the communist party’s coalition only gained 1k votes, and have decided the sole culprit of the “left’s” loss is the communist party. Well, if you sum up the votes yes in theory the PS led coalition would’ve won, but it lost, and the political consequences are yet to be seen. It got me reflecting on how being a “3rd party” really means you’re gonna be in a position to “spoil” the center-left, and even though this is still an enviable position to be in comparison to places where 3rd parties don’t exist I question sometimes whether maybe many of the, say, american leftists I see who fear the right so much (and might even end up supporting democrats) really have the stomach for something like this, because let me tell you, it sucks, for now, I mean there’s some good people among the commentators ragging on us right now, and plenty of people who normally support us or that are usually political allies, but they’re not communists, and they’re not in the communist party so naturally they don’t support a decision that didn’t give the center-left power.

They all quote the same example too, the New Popular Front in France, they don’t seem to be aware of the fact that that coalition has been pretty much in crisis ever since the election, and that the center-left threatens to leave it all the time because it doesn’t have hegemony over it, and IDK if it was posted here but last week Melenchon called a meeting to decide if the LFI would even stay in it (or something like that, idk how that went). I was always skeptical of that arrangement in france since 2 negative effects from it were offering A TON of MPs to the formally discredited socialist party and, in agreeing to step down from certain races in order to bet Le Pen’s candidate, basically let the macronists hold on to power.

curious-marx Let me just pose a hypothetical to anybody who feels like answering, now I don’t think that Gaza or “The Left” actually cost Kamala Harris the election, mostly because it’s not organized enough for that to be said, there wasn’t a 3rd party on election night with LITERALLY all the votes Harris lacked to beat Trump.

But imagine if there had been, and that it was YOUR party (not corbyn’s thing, just the party of whoever is reading), that did have enough minority support for enough people to risk Trump winning just in order to show symbolic support for YOUR organization. And then there’s the fallout from that, and everything that Trump does is blamed on your feet, and you got, like, Hasan ragging on you, and other leftist personalities you might respect but that are not a part of the organization.

How would that make you feel? And how would you deal with the possible political consequences (for example people who normally support you now backing away because they fear the right that much)?

I never read up on what the people in the “partyist” factions of any american left organizations (DSA/PSL/whatever) would do in that scenario or what they’d intend to do if they’re initially successful and start spoiling democrats electoral victories.

The Pakistani Air Force has now carried out large daytime airstrikes in Kabul and Kandahar, Afghanistan.

    Video of both strikes

Field Marshal Asim Munir, the Chief of Staff of the Pakistan Army, is currently meeting with the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari.

Reports of a 48 hour ceasefire between Pakistan and the Taliban in Afganistan are emerging. The ceasefire is set to start at 13:00 UTC today 15 October, ten minutes ago. Pakistan probably want to try get their captured soldiers back, there have been some brutal videos released by the Taliban of mutilation.

Turkish government to play out the last part of the LGBT discrimination threats leaked one year ago. The 11th Amendment to the Criminal Code, to be voted on this month, contains changes to:

-Obscenity laws(the ones that ban public sex) to increase the penalty to 1 to 3 years. It will also now include “actions incompatible with biological sex, encouraging or praising such actions” and (symbolic) gay wedding ceremonies.

-Legal reassignment. The minimum age is now 25 and “scientific necessity” must be proven. This is in a country where legal transition is nearly impossible due to lack of professionals and absurd expectations from doctors. Any “changes to an individual’s gender” outside of the law is punishable by 3 to 7 years.

Here is a good English source: https://kaosgl1.org/en/single-news/11th-judicial-package-prison-sentences-for-lgbti-s-gender-reassignment-age-raised-to-25

I assume nobody will want to take this part out in order to not be seen as “friendly towards gays”. None of the bans before this got any attention except from LGBTQ orgs.

Car bomb in Guayaquil, Ecuador. The government and its troll center activates a narrative that this was an attack targeting President Noboa’s family—but people believe it’s a false flag to justify more violent repression and disappearances of protesters.

The US-puppet regime in Ecuador has deployed security forces to repress people and carry out violent, arbitrary detentions in Otavalo, amid a national strike & significant protests that have lasted weeks, mainly in the Sierra. 🇪🇨Noboa’s regime is actively supported by Washington.

In a statement, @CONAIE_Ecuador denounced the military offensive and invasion carried out by the Noboa regime against communities of Imbabura, over the last two days, using ~1,000 troops and 100 armoured vehicles.

It’s day 23 of the national strike, all of Imbabura is under siege. Security forces deployed in force in & around Otavalo, calling them “humanitarian convoys”. Communities have held road blockades in the provinces of Cañar, Carchi, Azuay. Abductions

Lost of evidence of violent abductions by Noboa’s security forces and other unidentified regime-aligned gangs. This is precisely the democracy that Marco Rubio wants for all of us.

Ecuador: Military convoys are breaking into hospitals in Imbabura to abduct injured people and have ordered hospitals and clinics to DENY treatment to protesters and instead call the police.
