i am literally going in-patient on Monday and then entering a 90-day mental health residential community because i am currently unable to function. i recently lost my job and even had the FBI show up at my house. i am spiraling, i am going fucking insane with rage and fear. i’m going to lose my 13 year relationship if i don’t learn some new coping skills and stabilize myself.

…and i’m pissed. my mental illnesses have been severely exacerbated by the rise of fascism in America. how the fuck am i not supposed to feel threatened? i am LGBT, i am an outspoken communist—i’m a large part of what this administration just labeled as an enemy and a terrorist. of course i am falling apart and feeling the need to “get them” before they get me.

Direct your anger and live out of spite. Do not give in. Its easy for me to say, but find strength. You ll be in my thoughts.

      i am an outspoken communist

      Um…

I mean I repect your rights to hold those beliefs, but you do know that the US, as well as many western countries, are actively hostile to anyone self-proclaiming to be a “communist”, right. In the US, for example, a non-citizen proclaiming to be a “communist” will most likely get deported. And btw, I’m not saying thay I agree with these policies, just explaining the reality.

What are your actual beliefs anyways? In the context of US politics (probably most western countries as well), the word “communist”, in the view of the authorities, generaly refers to those who support authoritarian regimes/parties such as the USSR’s and PRC’s “communist party”.

If you tell the average person in the west that you are a “communist”, they wouldn’t ever think anarchism, they would think “oh this person supports dictatorships”. Do you understand my point? Most people do not understand nuance.

I personally would not use these labels like because they contain connotations about authoritarianism. Is there an alternative word you can use? Or maybe just explain you views without relying on labels like “communist” because, again, most people don’t understand nuance. Saying “I’m left-of-center, and support policies like UBI, community funded (tax-funded) universal free healthcare and free education, etc…”, I think this sound a lot better than “Socialism”. In your case, maybe use “I support the working-class owning factories, warehouses, that they work on” rather than “I’m a communist”.
