It hit me today that my partner and I fall back on ordering takeout due to disagreements about divisions of household labor, and it’s becoming a pricey problem.
I’m the one who always cooks, but we have very different food palates. She prefers food that is fried, processed, and light on vegetables. I love colorful, Mediterranean-inspired and healthy dishes. She’s also very picky and will reject foods if I got the textures and shapes wrong. On top of that, I’m the one who almost always does dishes because she has ADD and will often forget to run the dishwasher, leaving me to do it the next day while the next day’s dishes pile up.
We’ve lived together a year now and there is a small list of recipes we’ll both eat. Everything feels like a compromise though and I never feel like I love the foods that I cook anymore. I don’t remember the last time I got a home-cooked meal with mushrooms, tofu, fish, or containing more than one vegetable other than peppers and onions. So we go out to eat way more than we used to, and it’s a problem.
I used to love cooking for myself, but now it’s just a daily source of stress. It’s really a downer to work hard on a meal someone ultimately doesn’t enjoy, and I worry about our health.
That’s really frustrating, there doesn’t seem to be a middle point other than take out which is horribly expensive and unhealthy. Have you got any ideas how you can manage it?
Why do you do all the cooking if she is the picky one? That seems very frustrating
In bad news, two exams this week and it’s going to be 80°f (27°c) today.
Good news however, I painted my nails to look like the frosting on wildberry poptarts because it’s silly and cute. My eczema is finally clearing up again, so I feeling more comfortable showing my skin again. I have a few really cute outfits planned and I keep getting compliments on my outfits and it’s so AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
Oh heck that’s a long, stressful, hot week. It’s a lot, just remember we are all 100% behind you.
You should totally put a post about your nails! We love that kind of thing
I’m going to wait on posting them for now, my eczema on my hands hasn’t fully cleared and it makes me very self conscious. I’ll post pictures when it has cleared though!
Those nails sound really cute
I love them! I’m not very good at painting them but I love to try to make them look interesting!
is 80° a lot for you? that sounds like the perfect temperature to me where both long and short outfits work
For where I live that’s very hot, it should be in the 50s, 60s, even in the high 40s this time of year
ah, I live in Florida where it’s been consistently ~95 all summer. Makes sense lol
