      a use case for this

It makes you look like a person who’d buy a Pi 500+. Which is ironic, because I see one such person every day when I look in the mirror and I don’t have a Pi 500+.

I bought the 400 version of this device for like $100 as my son’s first computer. I think he was 6 when I gave it to him. Of course now we have upgraded him to a Mac mini as he needed a more capable machine now that he has gotten interested in 3d modeling. It’s a good little machine for the right use case.

Back in the days I had a RPi2B(!) linked to the living room TV for browsing the web. I’m really thinking of buying a 500+, as I do have use cases. I could use a remote desktop on it to display maps on the big screen from my laptop for D&D gaming, for example.

Ya know, I do love the idea of having a convenient little keyboard that’s connected to the tv. Put that bad boy right next to the couch and hook a chrome cast up to it and it’d be golden. Really cool idea!

I guess that if you have a usb-c monitor in multiple locations, you can just carry a keyboard and mouse…

Cool, but not sure if it’s useful. Someone will buy it though.

The regular 500 for $90 would be a good option for kids, but this 500+ for $200 comes at way too high a price premium over it to justify IMO.

If you want to use glasses as a monitor replacement, that sort of form factor is one possible outcome. Someone did a PC with that as a display, and IIRC it kinda looked like that.

Like you, I kind of prefer the idea of separating the keyboard from the rest of the PC if you’re doing that. Just use a carrying case/backpack/whatever and plug and take the cables out when setting up. But if you place a premium on setup time and portability, if you’re very frequently popping the thing open and shut, I suppose it’s not unreasonable. I mean, we could theoretically also have a mini PC plus portable display plus keyboard form factor, and yet, that’s much less popular than the laptop form factor.

Sorry for the off-topic question but I’m curious. I have seen people say “kagis” in a comment a few times in the past and I tried looking it up to see what it means but found irrelevant results. What does it mean in this context? Thanks in advance!

“googles” -> searches with Google search engine

“kagis” -> searches with Kagi search engine

Thanks again. When I come across a word I don’t know I like to look it up to learn it. That one has been bugging me for a while.

My office uses hot desking. You get a monitor, with a usb-C docking station with a cheap dell mouse and keyboard.

I could see this working in that situation if you want a good keyboard/mouse. You can’t easily take it to a meeting room to take notes though…

It doesnt support USBC video output so its a really lame device imo. I just want a single cable solution ffs, why are there so few SBCs that do this.
