met a really racist person who was like all non-real british people should be deported and i said what makes someone real and he was like if both their families have been here since the 1700s and i said you know what. i can get behind deporting the king. and he didnt like that response.

    Idk if this helps, but most of the time someone writes without punctuation, it’s because they’re writing as if they were speaking.

    So in this case, it can be read as someone spouting the whole thing as a single sentence without stopping (except for the self quotes). I do, however, acknowledge that it is way easier to read this if you are neurotypical and know how people’s writing style is correlated to the way the speak.

      Thanks. It doesn’t help me personally. Punctuation is literally there to help express tone and add context to written language. It shows pauses, end of thoughts, whether something is phrased as a question…etc., etc.

          I tried to make a situation which is artificially hard to guess.

          Study don’t be a donkey like your father -> is this father a donkey?

          Study, don’t be a donkey like your father -> what I would have guessed (father is a donkey)
          Study, don’t be a donkey, like your father -> people do talk like that, they add examples afterwards (father isn’t a donkey)
