In a striking move, Microsoft announced a price hike for Xbox Series X|S consoles effective October 3rd, driven by escalating tariffs impacting manufacturing costs. Gamers now face increases of up to $50, marking an unprecedented trend in console pricing.
If I ever cared to buy an Xbox it would be exclusively for the three following things:
To have it as a collection item
To use it for Microsoft Rewards
To use it as an alternative to PC when either my brother is playing on the main computer, or to put games that I don’t feel like stuffing on my PC’s storage.
And frankly, I don’t think any of those reasons are truly compelling. I’d rather have a Switch 2.
Nintendo has some exclusives I like, plus there’s the entire Switch library at my beck and call as well. I don’t plan on giving money to Nintendo directly: I’ll get the Switch 2 from an official reseller, and any game I get will be physical AND used. Plus I live on Brazil. If I get into any trouble with the console, I can contact PROCON (our consumer protection agency) who is so feared by corporations that whenever their name is mentioned on a support ticket they IMMEDIATELY capitulate. The way they immediately fold is bound to give someone whiplash. It’s one of the main things I like about living in Brazil. People have sued and WON lawsuits for wrongful bans in videogames before here.

Except Nintendo is quite literally trying to stifle creativity in gaming with their latest patent nonsense.
You’re better off buying a Steam Deck and not giving your money to a company that is more of a patent troll farm than a games company, these days.
