I have a growing number of orphaned icons in “show applications” and also, somehow, my Steam launch icon is on my desktop. I would like to remove the orphaned icons from “show applications” and move Steam from my Desktop to “show applications” but I have no idea where to edit this.

Show applications are the .desktop fies in /usr/share/applications, there are also menu editors like menuibre. I’m not sure what provides your desktop shortcuts, you may want to launch or install the extensions app, on some gnomes it’s provided by an extension.

Interestingly, the orphaned apps I am looking to remove are not in /usr/share/applications. I genuinely do not know where it is getting them from.

EDIT: I found them in ~/.local/share/applications
