Being a model minority is in many ways (not all, obviously) worse than being in a despised minority. I mean on the plus side you don’t get the open verbal and physical abuse heaped upon you that despised minorities get. But insidiously you think you’re being accepted. That people like you for who you are.
And then the subtle racism builds up to the point you can’t ignore it anymore.
That was the hard part for me. The colleagues I thought liked me, respected me, and had my back would cheerfully stick a dagger in my back if it was a choice between doing that or having only half a sandwich for lunch.
