Oh no, earlier today I saw “h*ckin” and this one has “FCKYING”. Are the corporate platforms now censoring censored words?

Yeah, I don’t know about that. To my knowledge, corporate platforms will strongly disfavor your post in their content curation algorithms, because advertisers might be unhappy about being displayed next to naughty words.

As a result, you have some folks self-censoring pre-emptively and overzealously (since we don’t know the actual list of naughty words), but you also get survivorship bias, i.e. people who repost to Lemmy will not see the posts using actual swear words in the first place.

both things can be true. There are other forms of interaction bait other than censoring, but censoring is also a way to do it.

edit: holdup did you just ask a question then tried to correct me when I answered it?? why???

Only way to find out is a botnet with a rainbow library attack list!

I mean uh, a structured, sanctioned, covert study, you know, like how they do on Reddit, “The Internet™.”

Alternatively, maybe we could all start zalgo’ing our f̴u̵c̴k̶i̴n̴g̷ curse words, that could be fun and might work for a while?
