I hate this. So I (18FtM) have a BF (24M) and he has been showing me less affection and not really taking an interest in my things or what I want to do. He doesn’t really like my interests but it’s okay, we’ve been getting along. Sometimes, he doesn’t even know if he wants to be with me, but it’s okay.

Meanwhile, I just met this guy (19M) earlier today and we’re really hitting it off, although we just met. I’m starting to like him and IDK what to do because I like my boyfriend too and probably like him more.

It’s always nice to find someone who shares your interests and genuinely enjoys your company. This brief summary basically boils down to:

“I like my BF for reasons I don’t want to get into, but I’ll tell you the things he’s not doing, but this other person I literally just met seems to be better I think maybe”

People can take a long time to figure themselves out. I know from experience that it took me well over 15 years AFTER high school to actually start putting together some semblance of a person that identifies as me. All this to say, happiness is fleeting, security and comfort are close seconds and are much easier to achieve. Leaving them to find short bursts of joy is a tough choice to make and a lot of people would rather be alright not leaving a less than ideal situation than deal with the chances of loneliness and rejection.
