There was one point while watching YouTube that my uBlock counter was ticking up like crazy. It was going up by hundreds every second for no discernable reason. Refreshed the page and it did it again. Switched to a different video and it stopped. Switched back to the first video and it did it again.
Still not sure on whose end the problem was, but I had well over a 100k on the counter at one point. Video ran fine all the way through and nothing ever slowed down.

Different levels of monetization on videos, combined with staggered rollouts of anti-adblock technology.
They’ve been testing the latest tech recently. Which has, for me, made many of the more commercialized videos hang initially for 10-20 seconds before starting. While a lot of smaller ones play instantly. And similarly, the bigger videos will constantly keep blocking attempts, sometimes dozens in a few seconds, while the smaller ones have a few per minute.
They now detect if your browser is loading ad resources based on your session ID and if it’s found that you aren’t loading them, they just throttle delivery of the video content
love seeing ublock at like 1400 on a website and smiling
My favorite idle game is leaving a fandom wiki tab open with the ublock extension installed and checking on it periodically.
Same with YouTube
(Sadly, it is not 100%, but seriously, I think it is doing 80% less work compared to a year ago or so)
