It is just a slip stitch for attaching the beads. For the pattern I used jbead to figure out the color repeat. You can apparently do single crochet too but I have not tried that. This might be used for larger objects? Saw some amazing bead crochet coin purses last night that might use that. The rope is easy once you get started.
