I’ve been thinking about this. I don’t have much time for music these days nor would I really have the mental capacity for the creativity necessarily, but I could replace some of my workout time with “work out on some e-drums” time… Bit challenging to fit it at home but might be doable… Thomann makes some cheap-ish sets that look OK. Haven’t seriously played drums since I was a teen.
It’s never too late to learn the drums. I’m almost 38 now. After playing on a rookie kit for about 8 months and renting professional teachers from all over the globe to explain stuff to me in my own session room online via cams, I became sort of good at it. Upgraded my kit to a Gretsch one recently with Istanbul cymbals. The old kit I donated to a local music school.
I used to make electronic music back in the day, but went almost deaf after playing a live concert. I recovered somewhat of my hearing, but not well enough to keep making electronic music. With drums, I can still feel and groove as much as I please.
Recently a friend of mine (who is playing in 3 different bands) asked me, if I’d like to join one of his bands for live gigs. I politely declined, but felt very flattered and thanked him for his trust in my skills.
Also, I never screw up a song, I just play happy little mistakes, which make the songs all the more creative. ^^
Nice one man sounds like you’re progressing nicely!! I played them quite a bit when I was younger and I’ll go do the couple rhythms I still remember when I come across a kit so should be enough to get back into it enough to get a sweat. Biggest challenge is space and expense tbh!
I’m playing pretty much whatever is my mood of the day. Loads of German Punk Rock (sometimes back to the 80s and even East Germany), lots of Funk, Trip Hop is always a favourite, and, I don’t even know what else. Always depends on my current feelings. =)
I hope you can find a way back into it. There’s too few good drummers out here. <3 Bless you!
EDIT: Not a man, but a gal ^^
Sorry miss/mam! Yeah I was looking at the used stuff if I want to go very cheap there’s some options, makes sense I can see these either getting outgrown or people giving up on it. But I’d want at least real pedals ideally double and maybe with those mesh things?
Nice genres yeah I was thinking punk rock for sure just for good mood and workout and pretty easy technically. I didn’t even think about playing trip hop which is funny considering that’s kinda the genre I produced in.
Damn I’m really feeling like it now, the other day I was able to play an acoustic one for like 10min really gives me the itch haha. Only realistic option though is I’ll have to move the workout bench etc every time I think…
Thanks and happy drumming 🥁
While they have some cheap sets, I’d strongly recommend to do your research before buying anything. Most cheap e drums are just bad. But there is some okayish stuff in the medium price range. Depending your location, you might luck out on a used set for cheap.
Yeah for sure, I’ve had good experiences with Thomann before though and if it’s just to get the heart rate pumping at home…
