Shipments under $800 that are sent through the international postal network will be “subject to a duty rate of either 30% of their value or $25 per item (increasing to $50 per item after June 1, 2025).”
That’s the end of cheap treats from AliExpress, Shein and Temu, I guess.
Taiwan has import taxes for goods over 2000 NTD (70 bux USD) and you can only get an exemption 6 times every 6 months. It sucks. It does nothing for domestic industry because it’s not worth the capital investment to produce just to sell in Taiwan and they also wouldn’t be cost or quality competitive on a global market.
And it’s not just for"treats" either. It effects important stuff like supplements and medical equipment. Domestic sellers just buy from abroad and sell with fat markups at around 2-3x! market price
