  • Twitch now requires facial age verification to watch mature content in some regions using video selfies processed on your device.
  • The system uses k-ID technology and targets gambling streams and other 18+ content to comply with new online safety laws.
  • Users must scan their face to access restricted streams with many expressing privacy concerns about the new requirement.

Still sound like a really bad idea for that list to exist at all.
We’ve had more than enough persecuting the bath tub users
we must stop this vicious anti-privacy movement

Norman Reedus in Death Stranding 2 comes to save the day!

It’s so hilarious that they never considered that part of the same tech they use to recognize a face is also used to create virtual ones so these work arounds work incredibly well.

ok but that seems to fall into the they don’t care category. surely they could run a facial recognition algorithm on the faces and store some kind of a hash for anomaly detection. hell public transport companies are storing travel history for years for the purpose of cheating detection and they get away with it, no way a serious thing like this wouldn’t do that

Most of these things are being scrambled to put in place due to new laws being passed. They are literally doing the bare minimum to comply while also being able to collect even more data than they were previously. They don’t actually care about keeping kids away from adult content; they want pictures of your face associated with your social media accounts so they can control you. A few smart people working around it right now isn’t an issue for them. They won’t care until those are the only people left who haven’t uploaded their face.

And I’m out, don’t care if it’s twitch, or a government website.

Your biometric data is something you can’t change (not easily anyways), do not ever give it to anyone

Every single mainstream digital platform on the internet has gone to shit. Streaming, shopping, video/music platforms, social media, creative tools, web search, you name it. I’m tired of it.

The relentless pursuit of profit and growth ruins absolutely everything it touches. Capitalist rot.

I’m getting real tired of all this capitalist apologism, as though they don’t own our political class and aren’t directly behind both de-anonimization and anti-encryption leglislation.

All you have to do is follow the fucking money and power behind surveillance capitalism.

I think at this point we should stop calling things like this misguided. They aren’t.

It is a global effort by the ultra wealthy to instill fear and control in the majority populace of the world… The working class.

These measures are calculated to dissuade people from even attempting to rise up against the system out of an abundance of fear, designed to keep them in control as long as possible while they rape the planet and people of its resources, happiness and strength to fight. All so they can continue doing whatever they want because they likely won’t be alive long enough to see the long term effects.

Do I believe there is an inkling of good in there, sure but that little bit of good is from the under/uneducated populace that probably really do have good intentions when voting for these things. These people likely have no understanding of the underlying amount of data that is being collected on them and everyone else.

Just like me typing up this response, it’s probably being recorded somewhere other than on these instances and being parsed by some computer scanning the internet for discontent and trying to tie it to anything it can in regards to a physical person.

The goal is maximum control. The only people that are misguided are the ones voting for these things that don’t understand the ramifications. The ones that don’t care and/or are in a position of power are not misguided.

You know where we should start, the Epstein files. They don’t want to do that though because it would disrupt a lot the ruling class from retaining power and expose the fact that these things that are happening behind closed doors are tied to them more than the working class. There would be worldwide repercussions.

It’s not just about human trafficking and accessing adult content. It’s about war, the environment, money, and control.

The fear (in the ruling class) is starting to show, just a little bit. The cracks are forming, but the more influence they have over the uneducated helps them to maintain power. The world needs to keep the pressure on and let the ruling class know that we don’t stand for this.

The American government and corporations are a massive part of the problem. I say that as an American. I’ve never voted for the orange dildo and from day one have been openly opposed to him and probably 80% of the people in power. That being said, this is also a global effort. It’s not just happening here, we just have the biggest incompetent mouthpieces in the world.

The relentless pursuit of profit and growth ruins absolutely everything it touches. Capitalist rot.

The factor driving age verification has been laws passed by countries. It’s not private industry forcing it, but government. That comes from people complaining to their legislators that they are unhappy that their kids can see <random thing that they object to> online.

If you want a communist system, fine. But there are far too many users on here who, when faced with virtually anything they don’t like, immediately post a screed complaining about ownership of private industry, when it often has absolutely nothing to do with the actual issue at hand.

EDIT: I’d also add that there are actual solutions if you object to something like this. You can pass a law against biometric-based age validation, which I can certainly understand — that form could be prohibited. You could have some alternative form of age-based validation to be instituted to create a path of least resistance for services, like having government provide and fund a zero-knowledge service to confirm various facts to services like age. In countries which have constitutional law and a higher bar to modify it than lower law, you could pass a constitutional law against any form of age validation (“ageism has no place in our country”) to prevent legislators from easily passing things like age verification laws, which I personally don’t think will fly politically in most places, but it’s at least one theoretical option.

you are conflating things. age validation does not equal ageism. age validation does not solve age restriction because a validated user account can be handed over to a kid, or taken over by them in secret. the parents that can’t be assed to take care of their children won’t keep their smartphone safe either, because that’s inconvenient and takes time and attention

Not that I was making or watching those but the requirement itself is definitely something I want nothing to do with. Thanks for reminding me to delete my account, I’ve been meaning to do so for months now but always forgot to. One more thing off the list.
