Been waiting for this!
Virtual Desktop is one of the few reasons I keep windows around on my home PC. ALVR on linux just hasn’t been as stable, looking forward to trying this out.
Have you tried Wivrn?
I haven’t, what’s your experience with it?
I use WiVR and works great! I don’t have many VR games honestly but all the ones I’ve played have worked.
There’s also this website: https://db.vronlinux.org/ where you can have an idea though is not always accurate.
Well, I haven’t actually used it myself since I run a wired headset, but I have heard good things about it, and I’ve had a better experience with Monado than SteamVR, and Wivrn is based on Monado. I think it’s worth checking out: https://lvra.gitlab.io/docs/fossvr/wivrn/
Cool, will have to do a comparison of ALVR, wivrn and Stream Link at some point!
Interesting development…steam frame related change?
Possibly, but hard to say. If my guess is right and the Deckard is a split unit with a home console like base station and a lightweight headset mainly for streaming then probably yes.
It will probably run steam OS (Linux)…so that’s why I was thinking that.
Sure, but why add streaming support in desktop Linux if the Deckard is a stand-alone unit? Linux on desktop is small enough, especially those overlapping with VR use that it really doesn’t seem like this would be worthwhile, and so far Valve seems to have been of the same opinion as the VR streaming via SteamLink only worked on Windows PCs.
Sweet! I’m using ALVR, but options are more than welcome.
