The absolute absence of control and regulation of electric bikes and scooters is reason enough. China has flooded the market with bikes/scooters that fall apart after a year, ignore Canadian traffic regulations, and pack house burning battery/charger combos.
Why would the cars they ship here be any better?
I’d be less disappointed if the companies building cars in Canada were Canadian and building cars for the Canadian or global market. They aren’t. They are US companies building cars for export to the US. Why should every Canadian be paying to protect them while the US tarrifs its own companies?

And to add they’re sure ain’t talking about shielding Canadians from the reciprocal Chinese tariffs. I’m really baffled at how bad Robertson has been at being the politician.
There are other options for affordable EVs that don’t involve heavily subsidized Chinese vehicles.

I blame the car companies more than anyone - especially those who already operate in Canada and already make better EVs for Europe, UK and other countries.
They could easily add those models to their Canadian offerings, but they choose not to.
That is a very different situation than BYD who has never operated here.
