Not hard to spot a fellow Nova Scotian looking at their groceries.
Forgot to add, Chapman’s Ice Cream
I love/hate that Chapmans makes it so easy to rationalize eating more ice cream just because they’re a great Canadian company
I picked up Dainty basmati the other day - my god does it smell AMAZING when cooking!
One thing to note about Dainty, though… their brown and parboiled rice is from the States… Red states, too. Avoid those!
Jasmine and basmati are from overseas, and all their rice is processed in Canada.
Jasmine is what we picked up. Do you just follow directions on the bag for cooking? For stovetop cooking: 1 cup rice, 2 cup water, bring water to boil, add rice and simmer 15 min, then let rest for 5 min. Fluff and serve.
I have a small rice cooker that I use when making a meal for myself (a larger instant pot for family meals). I’ve been doing 1:2 ratio, per package. I turn the rice cooker on, and it’s done after about 15-20 minutes, depending on what else I add to it. Suuuper easy.
You probably already know this, but Down East has refill stations in various places to reduce waste.
I did not know that. No refill stations around here. It’s a 70km round trip just to the grocery store, only go bi-weekly. The jugs of Down East should do us about 6 months.
