Technology@lemmy.world•People are rejoicing about the removal of Russian bots from social media – but the truth is far more complicatedEnglish
17·20 days agoSo people are assuming “bot” means what Twitter users refer to as “bots” and “fewer bots” could just be “fewer web crawlers”.

8·26 days agoHe also has a confidence that reminds me of Pirate Software.
I had a quick look into the Bill Gates STD thing and can only find the info I had already heard, that he was allegedly trying to get antibiotics for Melinda after getting an STD from “Russian girls”. Nothing about Gates trying to give his wife the STD.
And to say Gates wasn’t an engineer is odd.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•WARDOGS community manager states that Linux/Proton will not be supported during the upcoming Beta test.English
11·2 months agoI assume this may be due to the nature of the closed beta being a focused load test on specific systems not a general playtest that the last one was. Removing Linux/Proton support may be a simple method of removing issues they aren’t focused on tracking this weekend.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•How can i teach myself to contribute to these projects?English
8·3 months agoYou could look through issues raised by other and try to replicate it. Offer your voice to confirm that there is a concrete issue, logs, steps to replicate, etc. As your familiarity builds you’ll be able to identify likely areas in the code causing the issue. This really helps others to implement the fix and before long, you’ll be the one fixing it yourself.
Also, look at codetriage.com.

Games@lemmy.world•Ron Gilbert cancels RPG project due to lack of support and fundingEnglish
2·11 months ago“They have formulas that they apply to games to try to figure out how much money they could make, and in the end you end up giving a whole lot of games that look exactly the same as last year’s games, because that makes some money,” Gilbert explained.
…
He continued: “That’s why I really enjoy the indie game market because it’s kind of free of a lot of that stuff that big publishers bring to it, and there’s a lot more creativity, strangeness, and bizarreness."There’s still a lot of creativity in big games but it’d be shame to see more movement towards nostalgia-driven/pastiche type games.
