  • Honestly very much not my experience unfortunately. It’s amazing how many “dudes into hisstory” are swept in by most stories generals and dictators told people about themselves.

Like yeah was the Slaver general really a “good Christian man”, no he was an asshole, who nearly died shitting in the woods like the rest of the world.

So many people romantisize the Roman empire but in reality that was after it really went to shit for most people. ( Which is really hyped by “great man history” problem in which people latch onto specific names and figures instead of actually considering that in reality it was the choices of millions and the circumstances they found themselves in that mattered WAY more then what one dude said to his friends, senator/etc or not)

No the Americas wasn’t a “virgin” new land ripe for the takening. Totally undeveloped or unexplored. The forests weren’t just bustling full of game and food suspiciously safe for people to eat for no reason.

John Brown reaction to slavery is actually pretty fucking reasonable. Both because it should make you sick to your stomach to see it but also the assholes who did it shot and killed some of his familey.

    Etc, etc.

  • I was actually looking at a layer system myself. With stabilized earth (50% concrete and dirt) packed at an angle about 1 1/2 feet, rocks, rocks wrapped in breathable fabric, and finally more rock on top of that.

Basically just mimizing the rate at which water flows under my house but giving it a better place to go away from the house.

I also have big clay pots buried a foot or two from the house so the water can sit in there and slowly spread mix spread out.

The biggest saver is dealing with roof runoff though, rain storage plus irrigation away from the house help quite a bit

  • For real. It’s like imagining metered electrical generation becoming the norm if solar was already cheaper and easier to install. Like if it wasn’t for decades of hydro and fossil fuel being the cheaper more flexible option it never would of made sense to focus so much on metered connections in the first place (and increasingly making less sense now…).

They will have to have some enforced mechanism to “franchise the sunshine” as they old saying went to prevent a world where they (big SaaS AI) are not clearly the option of last resort.

Even big corp and government world is increasingly “sovereign AI” focused now, just like hybrid cloud almost always makes more sense at certain level of IT infrastructure maturity.
