  • It’s not an expectation, it’s a reference. It’s just a fact that software nowadays is not optimized for memory usage, regardless of the platform.

And yes, I’m pretty sure your weather app is fancy but come on man, a weather app is mostly a portal to show cloud data and is totally incomparable to a professional grade video editor, even one from 25 years ago.

The fact that you find it normal that displaying the weather takes up a quarter billion bytes of memory make me think you are relatively young and have never experienced anything other than the software of the past 10 years.

  • You don’t need bandwidth to switch streaming services and import your old playlists though. For example a streaming service like Tidal tags all AI music and does not monetize AI generated music.

And if you weant the music straight on your phone, something like Opus 128 kbps is already considered high quality (we have come a long way since mp3). Let’s say your cousin has 20 000 songs. That’s about 60 GB in that form, which fits on most mid grade/flagship phones.

  • It’s not super hard to leave Spotify if you are willing to invest some effort.

Use Exportify (free service) to download his playlists from Spotify as csv files. Or use something like Soundizz (paid) to directly convert between platforms.

You can parse the csv files and use something like Soulseek to create an offline library. Compress to aac or opus so you can take thousands of songs with you on your phone, or use your own casting service on a raspberry pi.

  • The worst thing is that almost nothing happens at the border patrol, it’s just a farce to keep the German right wing population happy and everyone has to suffer because of it.

You drive into a large traffic jam because everything is funnelled onto one lane where you can only progress at walking speed. Many times there isn’t even someone on guard. And if there are guards, they are talking to each other.

Got to say, it’s not very cheerful nor is it welcoming to drive into a country like that.
