Jensen Huang, the CEO of supercomputer chip-maker Nvidia, has for years claimed that his company’s artificial intelligence products, as some of the most advanced scientific tools in history, will help the world solve climate change, warning last year that “climate disasters are now normal.”

Yet Huang is now loudly cozying up to U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright, even though Wright is fully on board with the Trump administration’s climate denial policies.

A so-called “climate science” report Wright’s Department of Energy released in July has been condemned by scores of scientists as “biased, full of errors, and not fit to inform policymaking.” The report is part of the administration’s effort to overturn the scientific basis for regulating greenhouse gas emissions as pollution — the 2009 endangerment finding — under the Clean Air Act.

We already know how to solve climate change. The problem is not that we lack the technology, it’s large scale denial of its existence and cultural backlash against any preventive measures. Even ones that cost nothing.

Certainly massive increases in energy and water consumption ain’t solving anything.

It’s not even that climate measures are costly, they’re a net positive in the long run! But nobody is interested in the long run, because the filthy rich live in an alternate universe where they will live forever in luxury far away from the filth of the rest of us.

The rich do not exist in the same world as we do

They are all liars and the only truth for them is profit

excluding llm’s, Im sure the inovations in deep neural networks could solve some problems in global warming but like… this is kinda like a crackhead all-in poker chips move.

I’m sure there are existing safer plans (yet to be implemented cuz companies cant profit :]]]]]] fuck us right?),its just that this push by nvidia is like their only move in order to continue “existing” with their growing wealth.

It feels like shit to live in 2025 and I feel sick. I really wish we can all collectively save this god damn planet together but it just doesn’t look like anything is happening :///

Want to start solving the climate crisis? Start by turning off all the systems being used for ai. Then shut down cars. That’s a good start right there

while you’re at it let’s shut down power plants, trains, busses, semis, cargo ships, and just completely obliterate the power grid while we’re at it.

why not replace one crisis for ten more, right?

Don’t you think there will be a domino effect at some point where that is going to happen regardless? I was being a bit of a smart ass but we as a society need to start taking difficult measures to save ourselves. The longer we put them off the more there will be and the worse it will be . IMO
