$1500 rebate to replace wood burning stoves with a heat pump seems misplaced. Who has a $5 million home and heats with wood? Plus the ambiance of a heat pump. Practically the same as a crackling fire.
Some of the old homes I have been in still had wood fireplaces. There was retro fit for electric, but still functional fireplace. The goal might be to have these blocked up… Because the houses I saw used them on very cold days because the windows had no actual seals, they were those glass slat kind that fold over each other. Probably 50s of 60s builds

Replacing a fireplace with a heat pump it’s getting close. But it’s not intended to cover the full cost.
